The new play while show between Nov. 9 and 18
On Sept. 13, Stefoni Rossiter held auditions for the upcoming fall play “Discovering Amelia.” Amelia Jones whose life is falling apart.Amelia has issues at home and at school. Amelia gets assigned to research about Amelia Earhart, the trailblazing pilot who disappeared while trying to fly around the world in 1937. Amelia Earhart was one of the only woman to fly during her time.
Rossiter said, “All of Earhart’s lines are from her own words she wrote from her journal when she was alive. That’s what I really like about it.”
Maja Deboer ‘24 will play Amelia Jones, the lead role. She said, “She’s growing on me. I saw her as a moody teenager but the more I started paying attention to the script and as I actually read it for the second or third time, I started to realize that there’s a lot more to whom she is and she’s a lot more complicated that the script may initially seem and I think that’s what really drew me to her as a character.”
Deboer said she got her role by reading small parts of the scripts. After the auditions. Rossiter calls people back based on their performance, where auditionees go through a second round of auditions where they audition for specific roles. Based on that, Rossiter cast who most fits the role.
Deboer said, “Throughout the department, there’s a lot of speculation about who’s gonna get which role based on the auditions. Even before auditions started, everyone was trying to guess.” Some of others roles are Rue Strunk ‘24 as Susan Jones, Harley Nix ‘24 as Mrs. Caroll. The stage manager is Makena Large ‘24 and assistant stage manager is Live Arriaga ‘24.
Tickets will be sold at the door in the front of the auditorium before each show.
