What sports were shown at the athletic night?

On May 8, VHS held their athletic night for incoming freshman. This night is for the incoming freshman to choose and sign up for sports they want to do during their freshman year. Most of the VHS sports teams had a table set up for the incoming freshman and their parents to talk to the coaches and athletes about the sport.

Girls JV softball coach, Jessica Robinson, said, “I’m honestly looking for about 7 to 8 new girls to come in, just to fill in, we lost 3 seniors, but their might be a plethora of girls that don’t come back, and we’re like fingers crossed they do but we do want to replenish those.”

The athletic night started at 6:00 p.m. and ended at 7:30 p.m.. There was a pretty large showing of people, and a lot of sign ups for the sport students were interested in.

Many freshmen talked to several booths, while they made their decisions on what teams to join in the coming year. All VHS sports teams had booths, broadcasting their achievements, medals and positive attributes.

The wresting team even had a mat that they set up to further entice freshman into joining their winter sport. ASB had previously set up signs for each of the sports, that include Football, Flag Football, Girls Cross Country, Boys Cross Country, Boys Water Polo, Girls Volleyball, Girls Golf, Girls Tennis, Girls Water Polo, Girls Wrestling, Boys Wrestling, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Cheerleading, Softball, Baseball, Girls Swim & Dive, Boys Swim & Dive, Boys Track and Field, Girls Track and Field, Girls Beach Volleyball, Boys Tennis, Boys Golf and Boys Volleyball.

With over 20 sports to choose from, freshman had many choices to choose from. Henry Hottinger ‘25 said, “It was cool to be representing cross country, I am going to be the captain for the boys next year alongside Brody Daw and Sadie Englehardt [for the girls].  It was great to be able to meet and talk to the future of our team. So many of these guys were really nice and kind so it was cool to get a feel for what our summer practices are going to look like.”

For many of the fall sports representing, it was important for them to recruit incoming freshmen now, so when they begin summer practice they will have a full team.
