Nominations for Grammys were dominated by pop women
For the first time ever, only women were nominated for best pop vocal album, which include “Short n’ Sweet” by Sabrina Carpenter, “Hit Me Hard and Soft” by Billie Eilish,
“Eternal Sunshine” by Ariana Grande,“The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” by Chappell Roan and “The Tortured Poets Department” by Taylor Swift. The category for best pop solo performance also only nominated women, “Bodyguard” by Beyoncé,“Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter, “Apple” by Charli XCX,“Birds of a Feather” by Billie Eilish and “Good Luck, Babe!” by Chappell Roan.
Laniey Maurycy ‘26 said, “I think Sabrina Carpenter is gonna win best pop vocal album. I also think Chappell Roan is gonna win best new artist.”
When reacting to getting six grammy nominations Sabrina Carpenter said,“I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t dreamt about this day my whole life.” This year for Carpenter has been her breakthrough year. It is her first number one album nominated “Short n’ Sweet” and as well her number one song on the billboard top 100 “Espresso.” She also got nominated for Record Of The Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, “Espresso, ”Song Of The Year for “Please Please Please” and Best New Artist. Finally Best Vocal Album and Album of the Year for “Short n Sweet”.
Billie Eilish, for the first time ever, was nominated for Best Dance Pop Recording for “L’Amour De Ma Vie”[Over Now Extended Edit]. “Hit Me Hard And Soft’’ came out on May 17, 2024 and Eilish’s Third Album it’s 43 minutes and 45 seconds long and it got two billion streams on Spotify. Eilish was Nominated for seven Grammys in total this season on her instagram Billie wrote “Seven noms, crazy. thanks so much”. Her song “Birds of a Feather” was nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. Then “Hit Me Hard And Soft” was nominated for Album of the Year and also Best Pop Vocal Album, her last nomination is for Best Pop Duo/group performance for Billie Eilish and Charli XCX for “Guess’’.
Ariana Grande released “Eternal Sunshine” March 8th 2024 and is a total of 35 minutes and 26 seconds long and received a nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album. She also received Two more Nominations one for Best Dance Pop Recording for “Yes, And?” and Best Pop Duo/Group performance for her “The Boy Is Mine” remix with Brandy and Monica. Though Grande did receive three nominations, some fans are quite livid saying that Grande got Snubbed, because despite having two Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits “Yes, And?” and “We Can’t Be Friends.” She still didn’t receive a nomination in some of the biggest categories for Record of the Year, Song of the Year or Album of the Year.
Carter Hall ‘26 said “I think Sabrina Carpenter is gonna win best pop vocal album with Short n Sweet but personally I think it should be Ariana Grande.”
Chappell Roans debut album was released in 2023 and her single “Good Luck, Babe!” was released in April of 2024 and rose to number four on the billboard top 100. She also opened for Olivia Rodrigo on the guts tour which helped push her career into even bigger stardom and played at festivals such as Coachella. This Grammy nominated season has been very successful for artist Chappell Roan as it being her first grammy nominations and also being nominated for six Grammys’. Her nominations consist of Album Of The Year and Best Pop vocal Album for “The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess”as well as Record Of The Year, Song of The Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Good luck, Babe!” and the last nomination for Best New Artist.
Taylor Swift earned six Nominations at the 2025 Grammys. “The Tortured Poets Department” was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album. Swift’s newest Album is her 11th Album in her discography and is 65 minutes 08 seconds. Swift’s song “Fortnight” was nominated for Record of the Year and for Song of the Year, then received Best Pop Duo/Group performance for her performance with Gracie Abrams “Us” and another nomination for Best Music Video.
Beyonce takes the lead with 11 grammy nominations, that is the personal top score for Beyonce with her highest till now being ten, but now she’s also the top nominated Grammy artist in history. These nominations consist of Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Country Song for “Texas Hold ’Em,” then “Cowboy Carter,” for Album of the Year and Best Country Album,“Bodyguard,” for Best Pop Solo Performance, “Levi’s Jeans,” featuring Post Malone for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and “16 Carriages,” for Best Country Solo Performance as well as “II Most Wanted,” featuring Miley Cyrus nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance and “Yaya,” Beyoncé for Best Americana Performance.
Charli XCX has received seven Grammy Nominations and these have her first nominations since 2015. She received Best Music video For “360” which also received a nomination for Record of the year. Charli XCX’s album “Brat” received two nominations for Dance/Electronic Album and Album of the year. “Apple” was nominated for Pop Solo Performance, “Von Dutch” for Best Dance Pop Recording and lastly “Guess” for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
