Football League title taken because of false GPA score
For the first time in over 10 years, the Ventura High School football team won the Channel League title and went undefeated in the process. It is known that there are many valuable players on the team who played a big part in each of these wins on the field. However it seems that these student athletes may have been more athletes than students.
Just recently it has been revealed that more than half of the Varsity football team was playing with a 1.99 GPA score or lower defying Channel League GPA rules and regulations. As a result of this the league has decided to strip the team of their league title and force them to give up the Buena vs. Ventura rivalry trophy as consequences for the violation of these regulations.
Due to this, many of the Ventura students are furious and have started rebelling by vandalizing Buena’s campus. In the past week there has been extreme vandalization including fires, paint, flooding and breaking of windows. At this time they have not identified any specific students but the District and staff are taking measures to temporarily close the school for student and staff safety.
Ventura varsity football player and University of Washington commit Fistan Chillips ‘26 said, “Honestly I’m just surprised they would take our trophy. We all try really hard on our grades and we just aren’t brainsmart and that’s okay because we bring the school spirit but like it’s not our fault Buena sucks. Even without 4th strand players I guarantee we could’ve put the Bulldogs in the pound.”

We then got the chance to speak with Emily Vansalthrown ‘27. Vansalthrown said, “This is just so unfair ever since this has happened my boyfriend has been out all night trying to find ways to get back at Buena and has me staying at home doing all his homework so he can have a 2.0. All he does is be on his phone planning when I’m with him it’s like this has consumed his life. It has to come to an end soon.”
Fourth year Varsity player Bavid Dinal ‘25 said, “Buena is getting exactly what they deserve, they had the chance to decline taking the trophy but they kept it even though they knew that they would have never won it in a million years. I love seeing them hide away like scared puppies with their tail between there legs. And even though I have a 1.2 GPA I’m still going to graduate next year just like everyone else. What’s the problem?”
