Ventura College started football season against Fullerton

The Ventura College football team started the new season with a 32-21 win against Palomar. They then continued their win streak, getting a win by just three points against Fullerton in a game that ultimately ended with VC coming out on top 45-42. VC jumped out to a score of 17 unanswered points before Fullerton got their first touchdown. VC alumni Jimmy Vert said, “It was a super fun game to watch, you know, it was fun to see all of the points that were scored.”
VC’s offense was dominant as quarterback Devin Tate completed 15-22 passes, while throwing for 226 yards and three touchdowns with 69 yards and a touchdown on the ground. 133 of those yards were to Elijah Davis who also got two receiving touchdowns. The running back duo of Koen Glover and Love Adabeyo combined for 211, with both getting a rushing touchdown.
Cooper Ortiz ‘28 said, “The defense absolutely sucked.”
Even with the other team scoring 42 points, the defense still had some standout players like edge rusher Domata Peko Jr. who ended the game with two sacks for losses of seven yards and James Rose who finished the game with one tackle for loss, one fumble recovery and one interception.
The game had a multitude of events scheduled, one of which was because it was in celebration of the 100 year anniversary of VC. Football has been a part of VC since 1925 and in those years VC has won one Southern California Football Association championship and 16 California Community College Athletic Association State Championships. Notable football alumni are current NFL player Jaylen Watson and former NFL player Terrance Dotsy. VC has played in 24 postseason games and has won 19 conference championships, and on Nov. 27, 2024 they played in the 2024 BEACH BOWL where they beat Long Beach 39-33.
