Sept. 4 marked the start of a new NFL season
Football fans wait all year for the new football season to start and now a new NFL season starts once again. Since the NFL is one of the shortest sports seasons among any other sports in the U.S , the newcoming of a season has many football fans excited for the next sixteen weeks of fall and winter. Grant Golden ‘28 said, “I mainly watch the NFL only for fantasy football but I love watching the Baltimore Ravens…They got robbed by the Buffalo Bills in week one but I am still excited for the rest of the season.” Even though we are still in the first half of the NFL season, there were events from week one that surprised a handful of fans. From a spit fight between two players during the first game to start the season, to the first international game of the season between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Even at VHS, there are teachers who love watching football and are also excited for the season to start. Math teacher Rigoberto Rivera said, “From time to time I watch the NFL, [now] since I am a father and a teacher I don’t really have the chance or time to watch it anymore…I am a big football fan but I don’t follow it that much as I used to back in the day. I love watching my favorite teams play and I am excited to watch the Raiders play this year under new management.” Week one of the NFL season is not only the kickoff for football for the next 16 weeks leading up to the Super Bowl that is held in Jan. But it’s also the start of rivalries and games that football fans around the world wait for all year for.
