The Chalk Festival is an outdoor gallery of chalk drawings by various students that has been going on for several years at Ventura High School. Students sign up to showcase their artistic skills right on the sidewalk in the front of the school. It deviates from a normal art gallery in that attendees get to witness the artistic process right in front of them. The artists find their spot on the sidewalk in the morning and work throughout the day on their pieces, making their process part of the art display.
The festival featured a very wide variety of art styles including, but not limited to senior Aspen Leavitt’s piece featuring Wall-E and Eva from the Pixar film “Wall-E,” right next to a landscape drawing done by senior Dan Gacha.
