VHS Friday bands catches the attention of many students
Every Friday at lunch, different bands hosted by the VHS Music Department form together to come play at the Senior Lawn. The band “Electric Shadow” played on Friday, Aug. 30 with three members. The band included singer and guitarist Kirra Anderson ‘28, bass player Jack Lim ‘27 and drummer Styles Haley Kettler ‘28.
“Electric Shadow’s” band played a variety of songs, including originals and covers. For more info on the Electric Shadow band, they have an Instagram account with the username “Electricshad0w_” Electric Shadow’s Instagram account gives a better look on the Electric Shadow band and gives updates on their future performances. Electric Shadow hosts performances at many locations such as restaurants, and their next performance will be played on Sept. 28 located at Tony’s Pizzeria.
The bands are independent when it comes to rehearsal. VHS Music teacher Paul Hunt said, “These bands are completely up to them. They rehearse on their own.”Bands rotate every week giving more opportunities for students already in a band to have their band participate. There will be a QR code every week that they can scan. It lets us know that they’re interested. All VHS students with a band are given the opportunity to play on Friday, if interested,” said Hunt.
Nico Boccali ‘26 said “In middle school, for the talent show we had a little band and we played ‘Beggin’ by Maneskin and everyone loved it. So then after freshman year we decided to reform the band and I became the drummer.” Boccali plays the drums, and recently played for the Friday lunch band. For the music they play, members of the band decide together on what to play as long as it’s school appropriate. Boccali said, “We kind of just went down a list of songs we enjoyed and then like voted on them all.”
VHS students who are already in a band have the opportunity to play for Lunch Band Friday. Participating for one of the performances helps get your band’s name out there, gaining recognition. For more information on the Friday Lunch Bands, talk to Paul Hunt or Christina Dorso.
