What series do Ventura High School students prefer?
Both the “Hunger Games” series and the “Twilight Saga” stem from popular books written in the 2000’s. Both series soon became some of the highest charting pop culture influences of the decade, but which can be crowned as the best pop culture saga, decided by VHS students.
Brianna Harwood ‘26 said, “Hunger games is definitely better.”
“The Hunger Games” is a series that focuses on the dangers of the government getting too powerful. It follows the story of Katniss Everdeen, a girl from District 12, while “Twilight” focuses on an alternate reality with vampires and werewolves.
“The Hunger Games” starts out in the depths of District 12 with Jennifer Lawrence playing Katniss Everdeen. Katniss volunteers to fight to the death with 23 other tributes, with one left standing, in place of her sister Prim, who was originally reeped. There are two tributes per district. The other tribute from District 12 is Peeta Mellark. The movie follows their experiences being chosen for the 74th annual Hunger Games.

Finn Conboy ‘26 said, “Rue should’ve been left to die because everyone else died because of her.”
Emanuel Litos ‘26 said, “Katniss pisses me off.”
Twilight’s story is one that focuses on a girl that moved from Arizona to Washington with her father. Bella Swan finds life in Washington boring, until she meets a boy named Edward, the rest of the movie follows their story together and the dangers they get themselves into together after becoming friends.
Although the plot of Twilight is often seen as cringy, many teens think it is a classic 2000’s movie, and shouldn’t be shadowed by the plot of hunger games, even if it does have more depth to it.
Avery Hale ‘26 said, “Even though Twilight is cheesy, I think it is a classic movie, and shouldn’t be overlooked by Hunger Games”
Both films have their loyal fans, but these VHS students have crowned Twilight as the better 2010’s saga, even though Twilight has its flaws with cringe moments, it is overall the better 2010’s series.
