The people of VHS have mixed opinions about a new VHS confessions account on Instagram
@venturahigh_confessions on Instagram is a new school drama Instagram account created in December by an anonymous person. The account revolves around the concept of VHS students submitting anonymous “confessions” via a Google Forms page, where only the student’s grade is required. The account has amassed over 300 followers in one month and has over 140 posts. In one of the posts, a confession was sent in by an anonymous freshman claiming that he overheard a shooting threat from a fellow student which resulted in a schoolwide threat alert sent out by VUSD to parents on Jan. 9, bringing police to campus as extra security in case the threat was sincere. The messages sent are completely confidential, making it hard to pinpoint who may be behind the Instagram account.
However, the account holder(s) did agree to answer a series of questions. The account holder, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “[The schoolwide alert] was surprising because most of the things on [the page] are jokes but at least [the school cares]. The point of the account is not to hurt people and I don’t post all the bad things because of that. If you wanted to delete something just [directly message] the account and I’ll take it down as soon as you send the post to me and ask [to take it down].”
Gage Kushner ‘26 said, “I think [the account is] pretty fun if [the posts are] not about me. I don’t think I’ve been posted on [the account], but I have friends who have been. Personally, I would never write a confession.”
Greyson McLane ‘27 said, “I do not know about [the @venturahigh_confessions] page, but we did have one at Cabrillo [Middle School] that also caused many outbursts and school threats. I was once posted and I didn’t like the attention I got from it.”
Zoey Pence ‘25 said “I don’t really know much about [the account], only that a couple of my friends have been posted on the account. It’s hard to know if it’s light-hearted or them making fun of people.”
The Instagram account is growing in popularity, gaining about five to 10 followers every other day and gaining new submissions daily. VHS Administration has not yet made a call to action to help prevent the creation of accounts like these. Students all over the school are conflicted about whether to stay invested or report the account. McLane said, “I think accounts like these [are] straight-up [bullying] and [harasses] students. I do not like them.”

I think the account should honestly be taken down it’s causing absolutely nothing but drama and fights constantly over what some may call “jokes” but if this is really hurting others I believe it should be removed.
