Soccer player Kaitlyn Wright breaks Ventura High School’s all-time career goals record

On Dec. 2 2025, against Oak Park High School, varsity soccer player Kaitlyn Wright ‘26 broke the all-time career goals scored record at VHS. As of Jan. 20, she now holds the record with a total of 76 goals. Prior to Wright, Peyton Erickson held the record with a total of 65 career goals which she set in March of 2019. “Since freshman year, coaches have reminded me of this record and how it would be a realistic feat for me to achieve. Reminding myself each game that I was not only working for myself, but also the team, kept me motivated to get that title for us all. I stayed eager and kept high expectations for myself and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without everyone throughout the years,” said Wright.
One of Wright’s teammates at VHS, Madeline Abbott ‘27, said, “Some of Kaitlyn’s traits that I believe have helped her achieve this record include her hardworking and determined attitude, [as well as] her tenacity to never give up and her unmatchable work ethic.”
In addition to playing for the VHS varsity girl’s soccer team, Wright also plays on the Eagles Elite Clubs National League soccer league. After high school, Wright will be attending Columbia University in New York where she plans to continue her soccer journey by playing for their women’s soccer team. Since freshman year, Wright has been playing on the varsity team, also setting the record for the most scored goals in a season. She plays as number 16, with her main position being striker.

Not only has training and record breaking played a part in her time on the team, but also the connections between her and her teammates. Wright said, “The highlights for me were the friendships I’ve made over the years. Growing up and being able to be a role model for the lower classmen with girls beside me has been incredible. Sharing a small part of my journey with so many amazing people and creating incredible memories on and off the field has been unforgettable… Surround yourself with people that share your ambitions and drive so you are never held back.”
