Recap of the Season
Episode 1: Making the World a Better Place
After the destruction of the Conquest fight, Mark struggles with feelings of remorse and guilt for everything that has happened. The world still blames him for everything that has happened during the Invincible War. Mark keeps fighting against threats in an effort to redeem himself. He gets into a confrontation with Dinosaurus, who wants to kill off most of humanity to rebuild more efficiently. As a result of this, Mark almost kills him, feeling he should act before something worse happens. Later in the Episode, the Sequids Invade Earth, and Invincible has to make the hard decision of killing Rus Livingston, ensuring there is no hive mind for the Sequids to be commanded by.
Episode 2: I’ll Give You the Grand Tour
This episode showed us something we never got to see in the comics. We saw a huge glimpse into young Nolan’s life and the effects of the Scourge Virus. Literally killing billions of Viltrumites, the remaining Viltrumites throw all the bodies into the low atmosphere, creating a ring of Viltrumite bodies around the whole planet. The entire episode follows Nolan and Allen as they travel through space gathering the various items that can harm Viltrumites. They recruit Space Racer for the Coalition of Planets and gather poisons along with the Rognarr, a strong reptilian race from a planet with extreme gravity, making them abnormally strong and durable. Nolan has to face all the cruelty he’s committed to seal the Viltrumites weaknesses away. Thomas Manson ‘27, said, “My favorite episode was episode 2. I honestly liked this season in general, but the last episode, I don’t really know how to feel about it. I liked the entire season apart from the last episode.”
Episode 3: I Gotta Get Some Air
Back on Earth, Mark is feeling even more shame for murdering an innocent person. He is suffering PTSD, seeing himself killing Rus over and over again. Mark struggles with his identity as a hero, feeling he is succumbing to his Viltrumite heritage, finding killing to be the best solution. Atom Eve is losing control of her powers, making her extremely distant; which further drives Mark’s isolation. Later in the episode, Mark faces another Thraxran invasion along with the Gradians of the Globe. Robot and Monster Girl trap themselves in the Thraxan’s Dimension because Rex believes the only way the will win a long-term war is to eradicate them. After this, Mark flees to save Oliver from Mr. Liu. When he does this, he finds that Titan is the reason for Oliver being there and, therefore, in harm’s way. Mark almost kills Titan, beating him into the ground. Oliver has to beg Mark to stop. Despite Mark’s shame, he lacks self-control.
Episode 4: Hurm
This episode was a curveball; the storyline of this episode wasn’t even in the comics. Robert Kirkman, the writer/creator of Invincible, wanted to adapt the story into the show because he didn’t get the chance to when writing the comics. Invincible gets dragged into Hell by Damien Darkblood because he carries the blood of his father, therefore has to carry out his father’s exorcism to hell. He’s been sent to hell because Damian Darkblood needs assistance defeating Volcanica, a being from the 5th generation. Despite this being the weakest episode in the entire season, it did hold significance, as it shows Mark leaving behind his dark suit, therefore leaving behind the trauma and atrocities that came with it. At the end of the episode, it also reveals why Eve’s powers aren’t working, as she is speaking to William, Mark’s best friend, she tells him that she’s pregnant. The episode leaves us on a cliffhanger, staring at Allen and Nolan telling Mark that they need him to fight alongside them in the Viltrumite War.

Episode 5: Give Us a Moment
One of the heaviest episodes of the season, both emotionally and visually. This episode has shown us the consequences of Nolan’s actions despite his deep regret. Nolan feels so much shame for his actions, for what he did to Mark, Debbie, Earth and Thraxa. Nolan’s plea to Debbie isn’t meant to be selfish. He loves Debbie and cannot bear the fact that he hurt her. Debbie isn’t just hurt, she’s angry. Angry because he wants to take her son to a war millions of miles away. Angry because Nolan killed the man she loved, he lied to her for 20 years, and then called her a pet. There are so many details in this episode, it’s deserving of its 9.8/10 on IMDb. The Conquest fight between him and Mark was arguably better than the entire Conquest fight from Episode 8 of Season 3. The 3 minutes of no dialogue, just pure gore, makes you sick to the stomach, yet it was impossible to look away. It’s believed the quickest way to kill a Viltrumite is to rip out their heart. Conquest was pulling through Mark’s guts and intestines because he was trying to reach his heart. As Conquest lost blood flow to his brain, he started going faster and faster, realizing his life was slipping away. Conquest lies dead with Mark’s guts and intestines still clenched in his hand, and Mark, barely alive, pleads to his Father, “Help”.
Episode 6: You Look Horrible
The aftermath of the Conquest fight and the beginning of the Viltrumite War. Once again, another top-tier episode. The bonding between Oliver and Nolan is such an amazing arc. Oliver feels a subtle scorn for Nolan because of all the atrocities he’s committed, but also for what he said to Debbie about his mother, Andressa. Nolan said he never loved her and that she was a mistake. Oliver takes this extremely personally, feeling he is a mistake. Nolan does not see him on Earth and wishes he hadn’t come with them for the war. This further drives Oliver’s feelings of being unwanted, but Nolan feels that he should save his son from him, save him from what he did to Mark. After their particle resolution, Mark becomes conscious once again, and they set out to Talescria. When they arrive, Thragg and the Other Viltrumites are committing a full siege against the Coalition of Planets and Thaedus.
Episode 7: Don’t Do Anything Rash
The highest rated episode of the season, sitting at 9.9/10 on IMDb. This episode had some of the best visuals in the show’s history. This is when Thragg truly showed how powerful he is. With immense power, he doesn’t have to prove himself. He acts calmly and rationally. Thragg is a genetically perfect Viltrumite, meaning he is the most powerful. Thragg punched Nolan in and out of the Atmosphere and literally created a vortex with his fist, something that I didn’t know was possible. When Invincible punched Thragg, he created the first-ever reverse impact frame. I couldn’t believe it. Thragg is unharmable; they literally cannot do anything to him. Space Racer, Nolan, Mark, and Thaedus collectively destroyed the entirety of Planet Viltrum, flying through the planet’s core. As a result of this, we get a true display of how ruthless Thragg is. Thragg speed blitzes Thaudus and rips his head off, avenging Emperor Argall. After he drives his hand through Nolan’s stomach and impales Mark’s eyes with his thumbs. The Coalition of Planets saved Mark, Nolan, and Oliver, but we are left with Mark’s belief that the Viltrumittes are heading for Earth. Levi Grossman ‘27 said the episode was his favorite because, “I really liked the animation and action it had. Mark, Nolan and Thaedus destroying Viltrum was super cool”.
Episode 8: Don’t Leave Me Hanging Here
This episode was quietly beautiful. Mark is so worried about Earth and his family that he doesn’t even wait for the ship to reach Earth. He takes off, prepared for the worst. Mark arrives and finds that everything is okay. He reaches his mom’s house and finally gets some closure for his growing anxiety. But as he is talking to Debbie, he sees Thragg come in and rip her apart, saying, “This is the smallest repayment for what you did”. Mark is covered in her blood and is completely shell-shocked. He snaps back to reality and sees that Debbie is okay. He is having extreme PTSD from what happened to him and for what he has done. As we go through the episode, these PTSD attacks hit him several times. By the end of the episode, we see Thragg in the sky with Mark, unsure if this is real or not. But the Grand Regent speaks to him, tells him the Viltrumites will occupy Earth to rebuild their population. Mark has no choice but to accept his terms, for the Viltrumites will leave Earth alone as long as they are allowed to procreate while remaining unanimous. When asked his thoughts on the season as a whole, Diego Romo ‘27, said, “Overall great season, Oliver got what was coming to him and Thragg was peak.”
