People are anticipating the winter season in 2025-26

The season of winter is upon us, bringing cold and cozy nights along with dark and cloudy days. Dec. 21 marks the start of winter just four days before Christmas which does not seem ideal. The winter season only starting days before Christmas is bizarre because when I think about winter, my mind always goes straight to the holiday season. But no, almost all of Dec. is still considered the season of fall. However, that doesn’t mean that the winter festivities will be stopped. A lot of people enjoy going to Big Bear or Mammoth for the snow either to ski, snowboard or to go tubing.
Mateo Santana ‘28 said, “In the winter I obviously like to celebrate Christmas, but also I like to go to Big Bear and Sequoia for vacation sometimes. When I go to the snow I make a lot of snow angels, have snowball fights and play in it with my family.”
Here in Ventura, we rarely get any snow at all. Instead we get heavy showers during the winter time which is really beneficial when spring comes. However one of the best things about the winter season is the cold weather and how it’s the same temperature all day. This makes me and many people bundle up in cozy clothes like a soft hoodie and some comfy pants while also staying warm by striking up a fire in your fireplace at home along with a cup of hot chocolate and a good winter snack like some sweets or pastries.

Another wonderful thing about the winter season is all the holidays that are celebrated like New Year’s, Hanukkah, the Latin holiday Las Posadas and last but not least Christmas. All of these holidays bring a lot of families together and everyone eats a lot of delicious and traditional food. Some of the better dishes to eat during the holiday season in winter are turkey, eggnog, a variety of soups and chowders like chicken noodle soup, broccoli cheddar and a good pot roast.
Janluca Duarte ‘28 said, “All of my family members reunite for Christmas and we go to my uncle’s house in Washington state in the winter time for a big dinner. We eat a lot of Mexican and American food like turkey, tamales, pozole and menudo.”
