A lot of concern is rising in the U.S. over Bad Bunny’s large attire at the halftime show

On Feb. 9, Bad Bunny performed at the Super Bowl LX Halftime Show. The audience in the stadium and at home noticed that Bad Bunny’s attire was a bit larger than normal. People speculated that he wore a bullet proof vest to the Halftime Show along with the Grammys a few days before. Multiple people started to post with worry about the famous artist as news reporters and fashion experts worked to debunk this rumor.
Janelle Kozak ‘29 said, “I thought [the halftime show] was good. I thought the music was good and the meaning behind it was good. I think that’s kind of sad that he has to feel like he has to wear that”.
People tried to prove these debunkings wrong by saying his outfit seemed armored around his silhouette and torso as he performed and how the large clothing may not be just for fashion. The fact that the political situation is so bad people thought that an artist was wearing a bullet proof vest is concerning. Bad Bunny should not be needing to wear a bulletproof vest. He is also not performing in the U.S. while on tour possibly due to concerns of ICE and the current political issues.
Paul Iniguez ‘26 said, “I thought [the halftime show] was really good because he made nothing about America. It was mainly about all the Hispanics, the way he had the Mexican fruits or Hispanic fruit stands. I think he had that little boy that went to jail or almost got deported. I just liked the fact that he was able to mention all that in countries and stuff. I just thought it was messed up because you could tell he was getting multiple threats about [the show,] especially since they did like that alternative halftime show, that Kid Rock one.”
This shows that some students did not appreciate that there is so much political fear even in celebrities. It is sad that he had to wear a vest to the show due to ICE and their shootings, Bad Bunny is a music artist, not a political argument.
