Junior Liliana Lara stated, “I’m excited to be a board member next year so I can take on a more active role in making our school environmentally friendly.”

G.W.A.T. offers community service opportunities and improving VHS to be a greener school. For example, the club will be planting an environmentally friendly garden on the corner of Main and Catalina street. Their plans include removing the current plants and replacing them with drought-tolerant plants to conserve water.

On Thursday, May 17 the club took a field trip to Anacapa Island. On the trip, the club members helped out on the island by removing the invasive species of plants, learned about the Western Gulls that inhabit the island and took a walk to Inspiration Point where the well-known arch can be seen.

Junior Christine Martin added, “My favorite part about G.W.A.T. is being able to make a tangible difference through a school club with a really positive and fun group environment! The trip was very fun and my favorite part was our hike to inspiration point.”
