Ventura High School Girls Golf played San Marcos at the Buenaventura Golf Course on Thursday, October 5 losing by two strokes, 220 to 218. This has been the team’s 13th game of the season, and their second match against San Marcos.

Individual scores were senior Olivia Block with 42; senior Delaney Young with 45; senior Jenea Hare with 45; junior Sammy Pederson with 46 and senior Jacqueline Broderson with 53.

Even with a narrow loss, Steve Adams, the assistant golf coach of four years said, “Good group of girls, always looking for new participation. This year we had 15 girls come out and play…Last year we had 10, and the year before that we had eight…The program’s strong.”

“It’s been up and down but mostly it’s been a pretty good season. Broke the school record a couple of times and they’re a lot of fun to coach,” added Adams, referencing the school records on the Buenaventura Golf Course and the Olivas Golf Course.

On September 26, VHS played Oxnard on the Buenaventura Golf Course and beat the 2011 record with 216 strokes. Then on October 3, VHS played Buena High School and beat the Olivas Golf Course record with 230 strokes.

When asked about how the team was doing in regards to the Channel League, Adams said, “They’re right in the middle of the pack right now. I think we’re probably about second place [in Channel League] this year.”

The VHS girls golf team will play their next match on October 10 against Dos Pueblos at Glen Annie Golf Course.
